One of the easiest types of scams to fall for are scholarship scams. This is because kids all over the world want to get a scholarship to the school of their dreams so bad that they will believe anything. In order not to fall for scholarship scams, you have to know what to look out for.
Today we are going to cover a few of the tips that normally give a scholarship scam away.
First of all, most scholarship scams ask you to pay money. If you have to pay money to get money, then it is normally a scam. No matter if they call it a processing fee, application fee, or whatever, do not pay money to get money. Second of all, if the deal sounds way too good to be true, then it is! Although we like to think that our dreams can come true that simply, it normally does not happen that way.
You also have to remember that people are not just going to give you a scholarship, because you pay them for it. If you have the money to buy a scholarship, then you do not need one in the first place. Thus, spend the time looking for real scholarships and studying them instead of trying to take the easy route, which will just rip you off in the end.
The next thing to watch out for is if they guarantee you a scholarship. No one can guarantee you a scholarship, except for scholarship scams. The main thing to watch out for are fees.
They are going to try and charge you a lot of different fees. These fees can be as little as $2 and up to $5000. Either way, the only thing that you should pay for when mailing in a scholarship application is the postage stamp. Besides that, the schools take care of the rest.
Do not buy into the crap that they will try and sell you about fees weeding out the people who are not serious. They will tell you whatever you want to hear so that they can get your money. Normally after sending them money, you will never hear from them again.
