The 419 scam is a type of scam that has been around for a long time. Over the years it has been given a few different names. Some people call it the Nigerian Scam, and others call it the advance fee fraud.
No matter what you call the 419 scam one thing is for sure, you want to avoid it at all costs!
So what is the 419 scam? This is a scam that has survived over 20 years through mail and now email. The reason why people have trouble stopping this scam is because it keeps changing just a bit to keep tricking people into falling for it. To put it lightly, these scams are the ones that you get in your email that say that you have funds waiting for you.
Now, the way they present the 419 scam changes all the time. However, the basic idea of it remains the same. You agree to pay a small amount of money to receive a large amount of money. This is something that sounds too good to be true, and that is because it is!
So why do people keep falling for it? Well, people have come up with great ways to make the 419 scam look legit. For example, they may tell you that you won an online lottery drawing.
So then you ask yourself, “Wait, I didn't enter a lottery online.” If you keep reading the email, they may tell you that you were randomly selected from one of the sites that you use to be entered into this lottery.
This is when people start falling for it. However, the key phrase is, “one of the sites you use.” They do not even give the name of the site that you won on. This is because they really do not know, they are just trying to scam you.
Another thing that these scams try to do is make you feel like you have won something great. Sometimes they will put their titles in all caps and so on. This is to grab your attention from all the other emails you have gotten. Although this may have use to work, now it is just a sure fire way to tell if an email is a scam or not.
